More than just an active
ingredient in hip-hop, Stimuli is a multi-talented rapper and
songwriter. This Brooklyn born and bred lyricist’s mission is
to become a rhythm-defying agent.
Stimuli first acquired a taste for hip-hop music and learned
the ropes of the rap business by trailing his brother, the
widely regarded, Lord Digga. “My brother and Master Ace went
to high school together when I was about 14 or 15. I would go
wherever they went, the studio, basketball court, didn’t
matter as long as I was around them.” It wasn’t too long
before the quick-witted emcee began to offer these established
hip-hop artists criticism and creative ideas. “I gave them a
lot of help with the chorus and hooks,” says the modest
artist. Soon enough Stimuli secured an appearance on Master
Ace’s Slaughterhouse LP.
In addition to Master Ace, Stimuli had access to legendary
hip-hop figures such as Juice Crew’s Craig G. who gave him the
opportunity to sharpen his skills while battling. As he grew
older, Stimuli, known for his poetic flow and strong delivery,
never lost his hunger for emcee-ing. In 1998, he lended his
rhyming skills to a track on a premier New York City DJ Mark
Ronson’s LP “ Flip Squad All Stars.”
A year later, Stimuli took the top spot in the ORB-E Emerging
Artists Award, a nationwide contest for unsigned artists.
Judged by celebrities like Russell Simmons, Fat Joe and
photographer Jonathan Mannion, Stimuli proved his reign as the
hottest unsigned talent on the East Coast. “The award offered
me the chance to perform and really show that I could rock a
crowd,” Stimuli recalls the event. “I had a NYC crowd with a
R&B vibe and going up there an ripping it acapella on a
hip-hop tip made me realize just how important my gift is.”
This win was just the beginning for Stimuli. With this
accolade under his belt Stimuli moved on to perform at one of
New York’s well known open mic events- Marie Davis’s Mad
Wednesdays, and Nell’s nightclub. To add to such appearances
Stimuli has opened for Styles P of The Lox and the Clipse at
Howard University’s 2002 homecoming for thousands of people.
Needless to say, this 24 year-old graduate of Delaware State
with a degree in Radio Production is clearly trailblazing a
sound path for his career.
Ready to move on to the next tier in this hip-hop game,
Stimuli’s only has one mission. “I just want to provoke
thought and emotion through my artistry,” he declares.
