"Encrypted
Tongues"
Hip Hop music is becoming more and more embraced in other
cultures today and we are now seeing many Polynesians
(Tongans, Samoans, Hawaiians, etc…) rockin mics, and on the
ones and twos. Fatcat, a Tongan lyricist out of North
Carolina, has proved that the Polynesian/Hip Hop legacy that
was started and brought to the public’s eye by the likes of
The Boo-Yaa Tribe is still alive and is here to stay. Fatcat
is a name that is synonymous to hip-hop enthusiasts from the
Carolinas to Texas or wherever there may be a heavy Polynesian
population, but his talents are undeniable to any culture's
eye. Fatcat is not the stereotypical, run-of-the-mill rapper
and he takes pride in his diverse, positive hip hop style and
considers it a pleasure to bring something different to the
game. Fatcat’s early influences range from acts like Kool G
Rap, Black Thought from the Roots, Krs-1, Gangstarr and De La
Soul to name a few. "Krs and De La were positive, but still
bangin’. Black Thought was so different and never ever talked
about what everyone else was talking about...it changed my
whole outlook towards MCs." You can clearly hear these
influences in his rhymes. His positive but somewhat abrasive
attitude on the mic has made him a true favorite at shows and
in cipher's every time.
Pushing his music all across the states, Fatcat has been known
to bless the mic from coast to coast. He stands as an elite
leader of an unequivocal movement to create genuine,
enlightened music, which is beginning to entwine today’s
hip-hop. This pure hip-hop is beginning to be recognized for
what it is, with him recently winning the international
DJVLAD.com emcee contest and now being requested to work with
many notable DJs. Fatcat and Wize, the older brother and
producer of the tandem, are continuing their grind to bring
about their individual, unconventional sound to the hoi polloi
and masses of a generation that is sick of the habitual,
repetitious rappers.
Fatcat is the younger brother and lyricist of his partner Wize.
Fatcat and Wize remain unsigned but will never stop seeking to
get their music out. The two spent many years growing up and
constructing their styles together. When Fatcat isn't rockin'
open mics or hosting shows and competitions with the Swoon
Unit (The Carolina's Supreme B-Boy Squad), he spends his time
within the group's studio. There he continues to work on the
group's next project due to hit the streets later this year.
